Kate could slap John's face, but she should ask John why he is here with his ex-girlfriend. However if I were Kate I would be nice to his ex.
John could invite Kate to join them, however firstly he should apologize to Kate for not telling her about the meeting with his ex.
If I were John I would ask Anna to help me explain the situation, but this could cause more problems for them.
